It’s hard to keep from smiling when you feel good about something or see a picture of something that invokes a pleasant memory, and why would you want to? It’s hard to imagine a time when it would so more important not to smile.
People who have extremely crooked or discolored teeth, for instance, may have a different point of view. They will make every effort to suppress a laugh or a smile to save themselves the embarrassment of other people seeing their teeth. It may be a matter of vanity or it may be the fear of being judged by people who assume that someone with an unsightly smile is guilty of disregarding their oral health which may or may not be the case. Some medical issues can cause a change in the appearance of the teeth although the lack of proper dental maintenance is more often the reason.
The good news is that there are so many cosmetic dental procedures being offered now that most issues can be corrected. Whitening systems can be found over the counter or through your dentist. Bonding can eliminate gaps and cover chips or cracks while a veneer can actually reshape a tooth. And those are just a few examples.
